Aston Villa reportedly made an offer for former Birmingham City hero Obafemi Martins, according to the Birmingham Mail.

The Premier League side, who defeated Crystal Palace 1-0 in midweek to record their first league win since the opening day of the 2015-16 campaign, were understood to want to sign the Nigeria international striker around four weeks ago.

The 31-year-old, who has 42 international caps for his country, scored an impressive 16 goals in 25 appearances in all competitions for Major League Soccer outfit Seattle Sounders FC last season.

Martins, who scored the winning goal for Villa’s rivals Birmingham in the 2011 League Cup final against Arsenal, claimed Remi Garde’s club made an “interesting offer” to join the strugglers on loan last month.
