Aston Villa are to continue their pursuit of Burnley goalkeeper Tom Heaton, according to reports.

The Villans have already signed eight players this summer after returning to the Premier League following three years in the Championship.

Now Football Insider report that boss Dean Smith is looking to add to that number by bringing in the experienced Heaton.

Villa boss Dean Smith has been a busy man in the transfer market.

The Clarets have already knocked back a bid of £4million and are looking for somewhere in the region of £12million.

At 33 years of age and with just one-year remaining on his deal at Turf Moor, it’s claimed Villa are not prepared to meet that valuation but will return with an improved offer.

The England international regained his place in Burnley’s XI last term after returning from injury to take the gloves from Joe Hart.

But with Nick Pope now fully fit and tied down to a long-term deal, the Clarets will consider allowing their captain to leave after six seasons.
