Ayew arrived at Villa from Lorient back in July 2015 in a deal worth around £8m – Photo: Simon Stacpoole / Offside.

Currently nine points adrift of safety at the very bottom of the Premier League standings, with only nine games remaining of the 2015-16 season – Aston Villa looked destined to be competing in the Championship next term.

So being awarded the club’s top goalscorer award will come as little reward if the Midlands club suffers relegation come May, although we fancy winger Jordan Ayew to snatch this gong from striker Rudy Gestede’s grasp.

The attacking duo are currently locked on five league goals for the campaign – although Ayew has featured more times in the English top-flight for Remi Garde’s men than the Benin international.

The 24-year-old; who has 31 international caps for Ghana, began an impressive goalscoring streak back in late-October, netting five times in nine league outings.

Ayew found the back of the net against Swansea City, Tottenham, Watford, Newcastle United and West Ham United, although only the latter two strikes earned Villa respective 1-1 draws, the earlier goals were in vain.
