England begin their Euro 2024 campaign when they face Serbia on Sunday evening.

Gareth Southgate’s side go into the tournament in Germany as one of the favourites, having finished as runners-up in the last Euros four years ago.

One of the biggest selection headaches that Southgate faces is deciding who to deploy alongside Declan Rice in midfield.

The likes of Kobbie Mainoo, Conor Gallagher and Trent Alexander-Arnold are all in contention to start the match on Sunday, but it appears that Mainoo has emerged as a target for one of Europe’s biggest clubs.

According to Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri via The Mirror, Spanish giants Barcelona are interested in Manchester United’s Mainoo.

The 19-year-old has enjoyed an outstanding breakthrough season at Old Trafford, making 32 appearances for the Red Devils across all competitions.

Mainoo is currently on international duty with England at the European Championships

Mainoo’s impressive form earned him a first senior England call-up earlier this year, and he has now been capped three times for the Three Lions and will look to add to that tally in Germany this summer.

It is claimed that United are aware of Barcelona’s interest in the teenage midfielder and are therefore working hard to agree a new contract with the player.

Mainoo’s representatives are said to be pushing for a significant wage increase on his current deal, which is set to run until the summer of 2027.

If he does stay put, the Englishman is almost certain to play an integral role for Erik ten Hag’s side next season.
