Manchester United produced a remarkable second-half comeback to beat Aston Villa at Old Trafford on Tuesday evening.

Goals from John McGinn and Leander Dendoncker put the visitors in a commanding position before the break, leaving Erik ten Hag’s side on the verge of another damaging defeat.

The Red Devils improved significantly in the second period, though, with an Alejandro Garnacho brace drawing the hosts level.

Striker Rasmus Hojlund then netted his first Premier League goal to put United in front and earn Ten Hag’s side a valuable three points.

The result leaves United sixth in the Premier League table, but off the pitch it appears that they may face a battle to keep hold of one of their players.

According to Sport via The Mail, German champions Bayern Munich are hoping to beat Spanish giants Real Madrid to the signing of United defender Raphael Varane.

Varane has reportedly attracted interest from both Bayern Munich and Real Madrid

The 30-year-old centre-back joined United from Real Madrid in 2021, having established himself as one of the best in the world in his position during a trophy-laden decade in the Spanish capital.

He initially played a crucial role for United, but his playing time has decreased somewhat since the arrival of Ten Hag last summer.

This season the Frenchman has made 15 appearances across all competitions, starting just six of the Red Devils’ Premier League matches so far.

England international Harry Maguire, veteran centre-back Johnny Evans, and Swede Victor Lindelof are all seemingly ahead of Varane in the pecking order of central defenders at Old Trafford at present, and some of Europe’s biggest clubs are therefore interested in signing him.

Real’s interest stems primarily from the fact that Austria international David Alaba is set for several months on the sidelined due to a recent injury.
