Bayern made last ditch move for Chelsea flop

Chelsea will be hoping to build on their victory over Aston Villa when they face Crystal Palace on Monday evening. 

The Eagles will be without Marc Guehi, Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise for the visit of the Blues, and manager Mauricio Pochettino will be hoping to see his side impress once again after defeating Villa in the FA Cup last time out.

Pochettino could rotate his side for the visit to Selhurst Park, with the likes of Mykhaylo Mudryk and Noni Madueke pushing to start the match.

Now, it has emerged that Mudryk came close to departing Stamford Bridge during the recent transfer window.

According to Fabrizio Romano on his Here We Go podcast, German champions Bayern Munich made a late attempt to sign Chelsea winger Mudryk.

The Ukrainian joined Chelsea from Shakhtar Donetsk in January last year for a fee in the region of £90 million, but he has since endured a difficult spell in the capital.

In total the 23-year-old has scored just four goals in 42 matches across all competitions for the Blues, as well as providing five assists.

Romano claims that Mudryk is a player that is admired by Bayern manager Thomas Tuchel, who departed Chelsea shortly before the Ukraine international’s arrival at Stamford Bridge.

Mudryk has started just nine of Chelsea’s 23 Premier League matches so far this term, and Romano claims that Bayern were aware of his lack of playing time and therefore attempted to lure the player away from London.

Despite the player’s lack of regular game time, Chelsea rejected the approach from Bayern and Mudryk will therefore stay put for at least the remainder of the current campaign.
