Arsenal are back in Premier League action when they host London rivals West Ham United on Saturday afternoon.

Mikel Arteta’s side cruised to a 2-0 win over Greek side Olympiakos in the Champions League group phase on Wednesday night, and the Spaniard will hope to see the Gunners carry that form into the league.

The Gunners currently sit second in the top flight table, two points behind leaders Liverpool.

Ahead of the visit of the Hammers, though, it has emerged that one of Arsenal’s most impressive performers so far this season was there subject of interest from a German giant over the summer.

As per The Daily Briefing via CaughtOffside, Bayern Munich made an effort to sign Arsenal defender Jurrien Timber during the recent transfer window.

The report claims that the Bundesliga champions reached out to assess the viability of a deal for the Dutchman over the summer, while another unnamed European side were also interested.

Timber, 24, joined Arsenal from Dutch side Ajax in 2023 but suffered a severe injury on his debut for the club, therefore missing almost the entirety of his first season with the club.

Since returning to fitness, the versatile defender has established himself as an important player for Arteta, making a total of 59 appearances for the Gunners across all competitions.

The defender, who can play at right back or centre-back, has been particularly impressive at the start of the current campaign, scoring twice in six Premier League games.

Timber’s current contract with Arsenal is set to run until the end of the 2027/28 season, but the report claims that discussions about an extension are going well and there is therefore virtually no chance of the player leaving The Emirates any time soon.
