Arsenal have been reassured that there is still a possibility of engineering a deal for Benfica striker Goncalo Guedes, according to reports from The Evening Standard.

Scouts from north London were in the stands in southern Europe when the 20-year-old bagged a brace in a cup game against Guimaraes in the week.

The Portugal U21 international, who has scored seven goals in 29 appearances in all competitions so far this season, reportedly has a £52m release clause in his current deal.

However, Arsenal are not the only suitors. French giants Paris Saint-Germain are rumoured to be close to a deal, whilst La Liga outfit Valencia have seen a £25m bid turned down.

Although summer signing Lucas Perez hasn’t been the addition that all Gunners fans had hoped for, the clamour from The Emirates faithful for a new man up top has cooled somewhat thanks to the resurgence in form from France international, Olivier Giroud.
