Premier League leaders Liverpool will continue the defence of their Premier League title when they face RB Leipzig in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

Arne Slot’s side have won their opening two matches of the group phase, beating Italian sides AC Milan and Bologna.

The Reds also continued their impressive start to the Premier League campaign with a narrow 2-1 win over Chelsea on Sunday, and Slot will be hoping that his side can continue their momentum on Wednesday.

Liverpool will be without goalkeeper Alisson for the match, though, and it appears that his return from injury may still be some time away.

According to Football Insider, the Brazilian ‘keeper is set to be out for an extended period and may not return to action until December.

The 32-year-old hasn’t featured since being forced off injured during Liverpool’s 1-0 win over Crystal Palace prior to the international break.

Alisson remains unavailable due to a hamstring injury

The club has since announced that the Brazil international will not return until after the November international break, but the report claims that their actual projected timeline suggests that he will not return until December.

Alisson joined the Reds from Italian side AS Roma in 2018 and has since enjoyed enormous success at Anfield, keeping 119 clean sheets in 271 games for the club across all competitions.

He has also lifted no fewer than seven trophies during his time on Merseyside, including the Premier League and Champions League.

In his absence, Irishman Caoimhin Kelleher started Sunday’s victory against Chelsea.

Alisson has a history of hamstring injuries and the report suggests that the club have taken that into account when forecasting his return.

Kelleher’s ability is another factor, although Alisson will have missed two months of football if he doesn’t return until December.
