Chelsea broke yet another spending record on Tuesday as they completed a British-record deal for midfielder Enzo Fernandez.

The 22-year-old joined The Blues late on deadline day, in a deal worth around £105 million.

The fee will reportedly be paid in instalments over several years, with Fernandez penning a contract that runs until 2031.

Throughout the January window, Chelsea were undoubtedly one of the busiest Premier League clubs in the transfer market, completing no fewer than seven signings.

Now that the window has closed, The Blues appear to be on the brink of completing another huge deal.

As reported by ESPN via Fabrizio Romano, veteran defender Thiago Silva has appeared to commit his future to the west London outfit.

The Brazilian has been in sensational form this season at the age of 38, and he has suggested that he will soon sign a contract extension.

“We are negotiating, it will probably happen in the next days,” he told ESPN.

“My plan is to continue at Chelsea and Chelsea want to continue with me.”

Silva has been impressive at the back for Chelsea ever since joining the club in 2020

Former Paris Saint-Germain man Silva joined The Blues from the French side back in 2020 and has since made 105 appearances for the club.

The centre-back was crucial during Chelsea’s Champions League triumph in 2021, and has continuously impressed at the heart of The Blues’ defence despite his age.

His current deal is set to expire at the end of the current season, but it had been rumoured that he would sign a 12-month extension and he appears to be close to doing so.

Silva’s experience will be crucial in the coming months as manager Graham Potter looks to integrate the club’s plethora of new signings into the squad.

At the back, young defenders Benoit Badiashile and Wesley Fofana have both joined the club in the past six months, and Silva’s influence will undoubtedly benefit the pair during their time as teammates.

“Chelsea need me with the rebuilding of the club — and here I’m”, he added.

Over the course of his career, Silva has made more than 500 appearances across spells with Chelsea, PSG and AC Milan.

The defender signed a one-year extension last year to avoid being out of contract at Stamford Bridge, and he looks likely to do so once again in the coming weeks.
