Chelsea will be hoping to record their first away victory of the Premier League season when they make the short trip to face rivals Fulham on Monday evening.

Mauricio Pochettino has endured a difficult time in the capital since taking charge of the Blues over the summer, with his side having won just one of their six league games so far.

The Blues therefore sit 14th in the top flight table, although they did book their place in the Carabao Cup fourth round with a 1-0 win over Brighton and Hove Albion on Wednesday evening.

Championship side Blackburn Rovers await Pochettino’s side in the next round, but in the meantime the Argentine has been handed a huge boost ahead of their visit to Craven Cottage.

The club announced on Friday that midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka has returned to first team training.

The Englishman had suffered a knee injury during Chelsea’s defeat to London rivals West Ham last month, but has made a full recovery earlier than expected.

Chukwuemeka’s return could be a huge boost for Chelsea

Chukwuemeka, 19, joined Chelsea from Aston Villa last summer for a fee of around £20 million and made 15 appearances across all competitions during his debut season at Stamford Bridge.

He started against Liverpool on the opening weekend of the Premier League season, and was also named in the starting lineup for the visit to the London Stadium.

The teenager scored his first Chelsea goal against the Hammers, before being forced off at half-time as Pochettino’s side lost 3-1.

Despite Chukwuemeka’s welcome return, Pochettino is still without a number of first team players.

The London outfit have suffered with injuries to several key players in the early stages of the season, and the likes of Christopher Nkunku, Reece James and Benoit Badiashile remain sidelined and won’t feature against the Cottagers.
