Of the thirteen new summer signings West Ham made, the arrival of Domingos Quina from Chelsea may be the one that just slipped under the radar but he may well yet just prove to be the shrewdest of them all.

The 16-year-old started his youth career at Benfica before becoming one of many young foreign talents to join Chelsea. He made the bold move to leave the Bridge in the summer with the thought that he would sign his first professional contract on his 17th birthday.

Since signing, though, the Portugal youth international has received a lot of game time under Slaven Bilic in the early stages of the Europa League and in pre-season fixtures including the official curtain raiser at the London Stadium against Juventus.

A slight figure, at just 5ft 6in, the former Benfica man relies on his low centre of gravity, silky footwork and speed to find space and create chances, the polar opposite of his father Samuel Quina, a no-nonsense defender who represented Portugal at international level.

There is a significant amount of hype surrounding the youngster, who helped Portugal to the under 17s European Championship title earlier in the summer, and he is already on the radar of England who believe the 16-year-old would be keen on representing the Three Lions.

The starlet is an exciting prospect and his goal from just inside the opposition half against Leicester in the Premier League Cup made both the boss and the West Ham faithful take notice of his ability. His speculative effort helped guide the Hammers through to the next round whilst giving a timely reminder to everyone of his very capable abilities.

This kid is the future and his arrival will prove to be one of the most important signings in West Ham history. His arrival – with no fee or agent fee proved to be a significant coup for the Irons with bigger clubs circling the forward.

A look at this effort from the youngster will tell you just why West Ham United will feel this could be the biggest coup in their recent history.
