Brendan Rodgers excellent season as Celtic boss continued this weekend with a 4-1 cup win over St Mirren on Sunday which had the Hoops boss making a startling confession about the opposition.
Speaking after the game which saw Celtic come from behind, Rodgers noted:
“St Mirren are at the bottom of the Championship, but they are the best team we have played domestically.”
The Celtic manager’s comments will be tough to take for the likes of Aberdeen and Rangers who’ve seen the Bhoys dominate the Scottish Premiership this season winning 26 games out of 27, drawing the other one to make it a hugely successful domestic campaign.
Sunday’s win means Rodgers’ side are now through to the last four of the Scottish Cup but it’s Europe where the former Liverpool manager really needs to prove his worth.
Celtic finished bottom of their Champions League group this season and will be looking to kick on in the competition in the next campaign.
Just how effective Celtic are in Europe next season may depend on whether scoring sensation Moussa Dembele – who found the net again this weekend- remains at the club.
