Brighton and Hove Albion remain on the hunt for a new manager following the departure of Graham Potter.

The Englishman left his role at The Amex to take up the position of head coach at Chelsea, leaving Adam Lallana in temporary charge of The Seagulls.

Brighton aren’t scheduled to play until October now, with their game against Bournemouth having been postponed as a mark of respect following the passing of HM Queen Elizabeth II, and their fixture against Crystal Palace the following week having been rearranged due to planned rail strikes.

That gives those in charge of the club plenty of time to appoint Potter’s successor, but in the meantime they may be working on keeping hold of one of their key players.

According to The Mirror, The Seagulls are considering offering midfielder Moises Caicedo a new contract amid interest from a number of other clubs.

Caicedo scored his first goal of the season against Leicester City last time out

The 20-year-old has been in superb form during the early weeks of the season, and his performances have reportedly attracted interest from a number of clubs including Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United.

Brighton bosses will soon sit down with the Ecuadorian, the report says, to discuss a new contract that would increase his current wages.

The player’s current deal doesn’t expire until 2025, but the club are keen to ensure he stays put and will offer him a new deal that would bring his wages up to a figure similar to that of his teammates.

It is also claimed that Potter, who gave the midfielder his debut for the club, remains an admirer of Caicedo and could possibly attempt to lure him away from the south coast.

Caicedo joined Brighton initially in February 2021 from Independiente, but didn’t make a single appearance for the club during the 2020/21 campaign and was sent on loan to Belgian side Beerschot VA for the first half of last season, before being recalled in January.

Since returning to England, the Ecuador international has been in fine form, and the player was the subject of interest from a number of clubs over the summer.

Caicedo’s latest standout performance was last Sunday, when he scored Brighton’s second goal as they cruised to a 5-2 victory over Leicester City.
