Brighton and Hove Albion have had their fair share of bad luck in the build up to the new season starting, with Graham Potter’s side hampered by injuries for their season opener.

Joel Veltman, Tariq Lamptey, Dan Burn and Danny Welbeck all missed the Seagulls’ opening day victory over Burnley at Turf Moor.

Despite the injuries, Potter’s side laboured to a hard-fought victory over Sean Dyche’s side, and now face Watford at The Amex this weekend.

However, it appears that the south coast club could be on the verge of bolstering their squad with the acquisition of a striker for a club record fee.

According to the Daily Mail, Benfica striker Darwin Nunez could join the Premier League side for a fee of around £25 million.

Nunez has had a strong start to his international career, scoring twice in four appearances for Uruguay.

The 22-year-old scored 14 times and registered a further 12 assists across all competitions for the Portuguese side last term, and his impressive form looks to have caught the eye of Seagulls bosses.

As well as his impressive form for Benfica, the young striker has also scored twice in four senior caps for his native Uruguay.

Brighton are believed to be in the market for a striker as a cure for their inability to kill off games last season.

Neal Maupay finished the season as the club’s top scorer with just eight goals, while Welbeck was injured for several weeks and Aaron Connolly failed to have the desired impact when given the chance.

The signing of Nunez would provide valuable competition for places among Potter’s frontline, giving the club a boost in their efforts to continue to solidify themselves as a Premier League outfit.
