Ruben Amorim’s tenure in charge of Manchester United started officially on Sunday, as the Red Devils were held to a 1-1 draw at Ipswich Town.

After Marcus Rashford’s early opener, Omari Hutchinson levelled the scoreline with a long-range deflected strike that beat Andre Onana in the visitors’ net.

Amorim will undoubtedly have been frustrated at his side’s inability to pick up all three points, but the Portuguese will now turn his attention to a Europa League group phase game against Bodo/Glimt on Thursday evening.

In the meantime, it appears that those in charge of United’s recruitment have identified a Bundesliga striker as a potential transfer targets.

As per Sky Sports Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, Bayer Leverkusen’s Victor Boniface is one of a number of strikers being considered by the Red Devils.

The 23-year-old netted 21 times in all competitions last term – helping Xabi Alonso’s side to the German top flight title – and he has started the new campaign in fine form.

Boniface has been linked with a move to Manchester United

Boniface has scored eight times in 15 games so far, as well as providing an assist, and Plettenberg claims that he is therefore one of a number of names on United’s shortlist of potential targets as they search for a new striker.

Despite signing Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee over the past 18 months, the journalist claims that United are still on the hunt for another striker.

He claims that the club’s preference would be to strike a deal by next summer at the latest, although it is also suggested that any agreement would likely prove costly for the Premier League giants.

Boniface is currently contracted to the Bundesliga champions until 2027, but Leverkusen could see next summer as a good opportunity to cash in on the Nigeria international.

United have scored just 13 goals in 12 Premier League games so far this season.
