Championship side Leeds United are set to face a battle from Premier League outfit Burnley for the signature of Norwich midfielder Jonny Howson, according to HITC.

The 29-year-old moved to Carrow Road all the way back in 2012 after a 15-year association with Leeds United, in which time he came up through the youth ranks and went on to play 225 times for the Yorkshire outfit, netting 25 goals.

And although things didn’t quite start off well in Norfolk, the Englishman scored six goals and laid on eight assists to help the Canaries to eighth place in the Championship last term, a place and five points behind his former employers.

Yet they may also be his future employers as reports recently have suggested that the Yorkshire outfit are lining up a summer move for Howson, yet they are reportedly set to face competition from Premier League side Burnley.

Sean Dyche led the Clarets to top-flight safety last term with 40 points from their 38 league games, yet he’ll know that things will get tougher next time round so signings are vital if they are to retain their top tier status once again.

And with 104 appearances for Norwich in the Premier League in recent years, the £3.4 million-rated (as per Transfermarkt) midfield maestro clearly knows his way around the division, and could be exactly the sort of signing Burnley need to bolster their midfield ranks.

Ultimately, this interest could be a bitter blow to Leeds, who themselves will be looking to improve next season after finishing seventh under the since departed Garry Monk, yet it remains to be seen exactly where Howson’s future lies.
