Cardiff City have reportedly lodged a bid of more than €1m for Netherlands youth international Wout Weghorst.

The Championship outfit, who currently sit ninth in the table after Friday’s defeat to Birmingham City, are looking to boost their play-off chances with the signing of the Heracles Almelo striker during the January transfer window.

Russell Slade’s Cardiff City lie just one point outside the Championship’s play-off places.

The 23-year-old, who has played for his country’s Under-21 side, has scored six league goals in 16 games for the Eredivisie side so far this season.

Weghorst; who started his career with FC Emmen before switching to Heracles only last year, was left out of his club’s squad to face FC Groningen at the weekend, reportedly because of interest from the Russell Slade’s Bluebirds.
