Spanish midfielder Cesc Fabregas is reported to be ‘very close’ to agreeing with Chelsea to terminate his contract, according to Calciomercato.

The news has come as quite a shock to football fans as many expected the midfielder to see out the season with Chelsea, but it is now likely that his contract could end six months early.

This will of course allow the former Arsenal man to talk to any clubs ahead of a potential move, and it is thought that many top clubs from around Europe will be keen to secure Fabregas’ signature.

Thierry Henry wants to add to his struggling AS Monaco squad in January and has a fantastic relationship with Fabregas.

Calciomercato have reported that the most likely to sign the Spaniard are former clubs Barcelona and Arsenal.

The pass master made over 212 appearances for the Gunners and won the La Liga title with Barcelona in 2013.

However, it’s not just former clubs who are thought to be interested in the 31 year-old with ex-teammate Thierry Henry, manager of AS Monaco, also keen to secure the playmaker.

The World Cup winner has found appearances difficult to come by at Chelsea this season, featuring just five times in the Premier League under new boss Maurizio Sarri.

There is sure to be a whole host of top clubs who will be doing all they can to get Fabregas’ signature, as there is no doubt that the talented midfielder can still make an impact at the top level.
