Heung-Min Son was the saviour again as Tottenham beat CSKA Moscow 1-0 in their second Champions League Group E encounter in Russia.

Spurs dominated large portions of the match, but found it hard to test opposing goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev. Dele Alli hit the bar on the stroke of half-time, as Mauricio Pochettino’s side continued to press.

Son, fresh from his weekend brace, netted the winner in the 71st minute to give Spurs their first Champions League points this season.

A last-gasp equaliser denied Bayer Leverkusen their first group stage win as they stumbled to a 1-1 draw at AS Monaco. Javier Hernandez put the German side ahead late in the second-half, heading home Ahmed Mehmedi’s cross.

However, centre-back Kamil Glik produced a volley any striker would be proud of with 94 minutes on the clock to rescue a point.

In Group F; Borussia Dortmund held European Champions Real Madrid to a 2-2 draw in a frantic game at Signal Iduna Park.

Cristiano Ronaldo put the away side ahead after a quarter of an hour, before Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang bundled a loose ball over the line to level proceedings. Defender Raphael Varane restored Los Blancos’ lead in the second-half, but Zinedine Zidane’s side were denied victory late on by Andre Schurrle’s snap-shot.

A late opening gameweek defeat at the Santiago Bernabeu was avenged by Sporting Lisbon with a 2-0 victory against Legia Warsaw. Former Fulham man Bryan Ruiz volleyed in the opener just before the half-hour mark, whilst Bas Dost doubled their lead just ten minutes later.

Into Group G and defending Premier League champions Leicester City won their first Champions League game at the King Power Stadium, seeing off FC Porto 1-0.

In doing so, the Foxes become the first English side to win their opening two fixtures in a debut Champions League campaign. Islam Slimani was christened ‘the Dragon Slayer’ for his formidable record against the Portuguese outfit during his time at Sporting Lisbon, and was on hand to haunt Porto again, glancing in compatriot Riyad Mahrez’s first-half cross.

Meanwhile in the other group game, a second-half masterclass saw FC Kobenhavn thrash Club Brugge 4-0 in the Danish capital.

Stefano Denswil put the ball in his own net to put the Belgians on the back foot, before Thomas Delaney’s wonder strike made matters worse. Federico Santander and Zanka rounded off the scoring to put Kobenhavn second in Group G.

And lastly; in Group H, it was business as usual for Juventus as they romped to a 4-0 win at Croatian champions Dinamo Zagreb. Miralem Pjanic struck the first blow for the Old Lady, before turning provider for Gonzalo Higuain.

A magnificent 30-yard effort from Paulo Dybala put Juventus three to the good, and Dani Alves wrapped up matters with five minutes to go.

Finally, Sevilla bagged their first three points of the group stage with a fine 1-0 win against Olympique Lyonnais. French forward Wissam Ben Yedder was the man to put Lyon to the sword, scoring the game’s only goal on 52 minutes with a close-range finish.
