Hull City all but confirmed their place in the Championship play-off final after thrashing Derby 3-0 away from home in the first leg of their semi-final.

The Tigers’ Player of the Season, Abel Hernandez, opened the scoring with an arrowing 25-yard strike, before Moses Odubajo doubled their lead shortly before half-time with a shot that deflected off defender Jason Shackell.

Scotland international Andrew Robertson then added a third in the eighth minute of second-half stoppage-time, after a superb counter-attack saw Steve Bruce’s side take a huge stride in their bid for promotion.

Meanwhile, Sheffield Wednesday are closing in on a trip to Wembley Stadium as they comfortably dispatched Brighton at home 2-0.

The Owls initially had a goal disallowed for offside when Fernando Forestieri put the ball in the back of the net.

But just moments later, Ross Wallace struck a terrific 25-yard effort past the Seagulls keeper and Kieran Lee made sure of the victory in the closing stages of the game after the visitors were reduced to ten men, following four injuries to their side, including the likes of Anthony Knockaert and top goalscorer Tomer Hemed.
