Huddersfield Town remain top of the Championship as they won 1-0 at west Yorkshire rivals Leeds United, as the Terriers sealed their best start to a season in their history.

On-loan Manchester City midfielder Aaron Mooy scored the game’s only goal, with an emphatic 25-yard strike that thrashed into the top corner.

Newcastle United comfortably dispatched of fellow promotion favourites Derby County, winning 2-0 away from home. Yoan Gouffran’s thunderous volley after just 20 minutes put the Magpies ahead, before DeAndre Yedlin claimed his first goal for his new club, as he bundled in an effort in second-half stoppage-time.

Barnsley’s outstanding start to life in the Championship continued with a 2-1 victory at Preston North End. Sam Winnall had put the Tykes ahead, only for on-loan Everton midfielder Aiden McGeady’s long-range shot made it 1-1 after just over an hour gone. Yet, Adam Armstrong netted on his debut to ensure all three points for the visitors.

Brighton and Hove Albion lost at home for the first time since New Year’s Day, as travelling Brentford sealed a 2-0 victory. Scott Hogan was the Bees’ hero, as the striker scored both goals as they climb up to seventh.

Norwich City narrowly defeated Cardiff City 3-2 at home. After initially going 2-0 up through Cameron Jerome and Russell Martin, former Canaries star Anthony Pilkington tried to ruin his old club’s comfortable afternoon up until that point, as the midfielder scored twice in the final five minutes, either side of Josh Murphy’s curling strike.

Bristol City scored twice in the last 15 minutes to draw 2-2 at Rotherham United. The Millers thought that had wrapped up the three points, after an effort from Izzy Brown and an own goal by Aden Flint. But, the Robins pulled one back through in-form striker Tammy Abraham and equalised when Bobby Reid slotted home.

It was a tale of not one, not two, but three penalties as Reading won 2-1 at home to Ipswich Town on Friday night. The Royals led at the break 1-0, as Gareth McCleary opened the scoring, but it did not take long for the Tractor Boys to equalise shortly after re-start as Brett Pitman converted his spot kick in the 50th minute. Yet, in stoppage-time Jaap Stam’s side claimed victory as Danny Williams kept his nerve.

Nottingham Forest equalised with just over two minutes left to draw 2-2 at Aston Villa. The visitors had initially taken the lead when Apostolos Vellios scored his first goal for Forest, but the Villans hit back as both Ross McCormack and Rudy Gestede got on the scoresheet.

The hosts though could not hold on to their lead and Henri Lansbury found the bottom corner and in the wild scenes after the equaliser Hildeberto Pereira was shown a second yellow-card for celebrating with the fans.

Birmingham City are up to fourth in the table, after winning 1-0 at Fulham. Clayton Donaldson thought he had missed the chance to put the Blues ahead, when he missed from the penalty spot early in the first-half, yet the striker redeemed himself after netting from his second spot-kick soon after the break.

Queens Park Rangers were held to a 1-1 draw at home to bottom side Blackburn Rovers, who clinched only their second point of the campaign. Tjaronn Chery’s sublime free-kick from over 25-yards out put the hosts in front, before Sam Gallagher headed in the leveller.

Sheffield Wednesday claimed their second league win of the season winning 2-1 at home to Wigan Athletic. Will Grigg had put the visitors 1-0 up, but strikes from Steven Fletcher and Fernando Forestieri meant the Owls were victorious.

Burton Albion scored in the fourth minute of stoppage-time to earn a 1-1 draw at Wolverhampton Wanderers. Will Miller was the hero as he forced the ball into the back of the net after Prince Oniangue’s opener.
