Three weeks into the summer transfer window, Chelsea are once again busy working to sign new players.

The Blues have been one of Europe’s most active clubs in the market over the past few years, spending in excess of £1 billion on new signings since Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital purchased the club in the summer of 2022.

The recent January window was uncharacteristically quiet for the West London side, but they have already signed Tosin Adarabioyo, Omari Kellyman, Marc Guiu and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall during the current window.

Despite the need to sell players in order to adhere to the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules, it appears that Chelsea are closing in on yet another signing.

As per Fabrizio Romano, the Premier League side have agreed a £11.8 million deal to sign Basel’s Renato Veiga.

It is claimed that the club have already agreed personal terms with the 20-year-old, who is set to leave Basel’s pre-season training camp to complete his move to Stamford Bridge.

Enzo Maresca will take charge of the Blues next season

Veiga joined the Swiss side from Sporting CP last summer and enjoyed an impressive debut season in Switzerland, making 26 appearances across all competitions.

Romano suggests that Veiga’s versatility appeals to Chelsea, with the Portuguese able to play in a variety of roles including left-back, centre-back and as a defensive midfielder.

The player is now expected to complete a medical and finalise his switch to the Premier League in the coming hours, with official confirmation to follow.

Romano has also revealed that the fee for Veiga will be fixed, with no sell-on clause or performance-related add-ons.
