Chelsea are back in Premier League action this weekend, as they travel to face Aston Villa on Sunday.

The Blues have won four matches in a row in all competitions, and currently sit fourth in the table having turned their season around after a disappointing start.

Graham Potter has seen his side score 11 goals and concede only twice since taking charge last month, and he will be hoping for another good performance against a struggling Villa side.

Despite Chelsea’s impressive scoring record of late, it appears that they are already looking ahead to next season.

As reported by BILD via Metro, Chelsea are hopeful of finalising a deal for RB Leipzig star Christopher Nkunku before the World Cup begins in November.

The Frenchman reportedly passed a medical in Germany ahead of a proposed move to Stamford Bridge last month, and the new reports from Germany suggest that Chelsea are hopeful of agreeing a deal in the next few weeks.

The Blues play nine games between now and the start of the showpiece event on November 20, but they remain hopeful of completing a deal in that time.

Nkunku has a combined 66 goals and assists since the start of last season

The 24-year-old will reportedly sign a five-year deal with the Premier League club.

Nkunku has been in sensational form since the start of last season, scoring a remarkable 35 goals and registering 20 assists in 52 matches last term.

He has started this season strongly, too, scoring ten times in Leipzig’s first 15 games.

The forward would bolster Potter’s attacking options, although both Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech have been linked with exits from the club.

The Leipzig star joined the club from Paris Saint-Germain in 2019 for a fee of around £11 million, and he has so far made more than 150 appearances for the German side.

Nkunku made his debut for the France national side in March this year and is now pushing to be involved in the World Cup.

The German outlet also claims that The Blues remain interested in Nkunku’s Leipzig teammate Josko Gvardiol.

The 20-year-old centre-back was heavily linked with Chelsea over the summer, but signed a new deal with his current employers last month that keeps him at the club until 2027.

Chelsea instead moved for Kalidou Koulibaly and Wesley Fofana, although Thiago Silva is set to be out of contract next summer.
