Calafiori impressed for Italy during the Euro 2024 group stages

Calafiori, 22, made 37 appearances for the Italian side across all competitions last term, helping Bologna achieve a fifth-placed finish in Serie A.

The central defender, who can also play at left-back, is contracted to his current side until the end of the 2026/27 campaign.

He played every minute of Italy’s group stage campaign, impressing in all three matches as the defending champions progressed, but he missed their last 16 defeat to Switzerland due to suspension.

Romano claims that the Gunners have presented the player – who is open to the idea of a move to The Emirates – with a long-term proposal.

Calafiori is one of three players on a shortlist that has been drawn up by those in charge of Arsenal’s recruitment, as they look to bolster Arteta’s defensive options ahead of next season.

Chelsea, meanwhile, remain in the race to sign the defender, who is valued by his current side at around £42 million.
