Chelsea face Spanish champions Real Madrid on Wednesday, in their penultimate friendly before the start of the new Premier League season.

Enzo Maresca’s side have endured a difficult pre-season campaign so far, drawing with League One side Wrexham before defeats against both Celtic and Manchester City – either side of a win over Mexican outfit Club America.

The Blues now face Real Madrid, before welcoming Italian champions Inter Milan to Stamford Bridge in their final friendly before hosting Premier League champions Manchester City on the opening weekend of the new season.

One player that looks unlikely to be involved against the Citizens, though, is midfielder Conor Gallagher.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the midfielder has agreed to join Spanish side Atletico Madrid.

The La Liga giants had already agreed a fee of around £34 million with the Blues for the 24-year-old, and Romano claims that the player himself has now ‘said yes’ to the proposed move.

Gallagher looks to be on his way to the Spanish capital

Gallagher has been a regular for his boyhood club over the past two seasons, but there were doubts over his role in Maresca’s squad for the upcoming season.

The England international is set to sign a five-year-deal with the La Liga side, Romano claims.

Chelsea have already made a number of signings so far this summer and therefore likely need to offload players in order to ensure they don’t breach the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules.

As Gallagher is a product of the club’s youth academy, the fee that the Blues receive for the central midfielder will be classed as ‘pure profit’ when taken into account.

The midfielder has played more than 90 times for the Blues across all competitions since breaking into the senior side two years ago, after impressive loan spells at both West Bromwich Albion and Crystal Palace.
