Chelsea reached the Carabao Cup final with a comprehensive 6-1 victory over Middlesbrough on Tuesday evening.

The Blues trailed 1-0 to their Championship opponents after the first leg, but an emphatic victory at Stamford Bridge ensured Mauricio Pochettino’s side will be in the final at Wembley next month.

Chelsea will be appearing in their 18th domestic cup final this century, and they will find out their opponents after the second semi-final draws to a close on Wednesday night.

Liverpool lead Fulham 2-1 after the first leg at Anfield, meaning that Marco Silva’s side must beat the Reds to progress and set up a West London derby at Wembley.

In the meantime, it appears that the Reds and the Blues may be set to battle it out off the pitch.

According to German outlet BILD via The Standard, both Chelsea and Liverpool are interested in Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich.

Kimmich is a target for both Chelsea and Liverpool

The 28-year-old joined Bayern from fellow German side Stuttgart back in 2015 and has since made more than 360 appearances for the club across all competitions.

This season the midfielder has made 22 appearances, scoring on one occasion.

Kimmich has won 20 trophies during his time in Munich, including eight consecutive Bundesliga titles, and the Champions League in 2020.

The report claims that the two Premier League clubs are ready to rival French giants Paris Saint-Germain for the player’s signature.

The midfielder’s current contract is set to expire at the end of next season, and it is suggested that he may therefore be available at a cut-price with Kimmich himself open to taking on a new challenge after almost a decade with Bayern.

Kimmich’s versatility will likely appeal to both Pochettino and Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, with the Germany international able to operate as a defensive midfielder, or at right-back.
