Liverpool edged ever closer to the possibility of completing an unprecedented quadruple on Tuesday, as they beat Villarreal 3-2 to secure a place in the Champions League final.

The Reds took a 2-0 first leg victory to Spain but suffered an early scare as the hosts went into the half-time break 2-0 up, meaning the two sides were level on aggregate.

Jurgen Klopp’s side were much improved after the break, though, and goals from Fabinho, Luis Diaz and Sadio Mane gave them victory on the night and meant they progressed with a 5-2 aggregate victory over the two legs.

Liverpool will now face either Manchester City or Real Madrid in the final, and also face Chelsea in the FA Cup final.

They remain a point behind City in the Premier League, meaning the quadruple could still be on the cards.

In the meantime, it appears that there is more good news on the horizon for Liverpool, as they appear to be a step closer to signing one of their top targets this summer.

As per Arancha Rodriguez, Monaco midfielder Aurelian Tchouameni has insisted that he would prefer a move abroad this summer, amid interest from fellow French side Paris Saint-Germain.

The young midfielder has established himself as one of France’s best young players, and will reportedly be available for around £60 million this summer.

Tchouameni has played in eight of France’s last nine games

Revealing the news on Twitter, Rodriguez claims that the France international has become a target for the newly-crowned Ligue 1 champions, but that the player himself remains intent on leaving the country.

Tchouameni has been heavily linked with both Liverpool and Chelsea in recent months, and the two Premier League sides will be buoyed by news that he wishes to leave France.

The 22-year-old has been identified by the Blues, along with Declan Rice, as a possible candidate to bolster their midfield options, with Jorginho expected to depart this summer.

Liverpool, meanwhile, will be in the market for a midfielder this summer having failed to replace Gini Wijnaldum who left last year.

Jude Bellingham has also been touted as a target for the Reds.

Tchouameni is also believed to be a target for Real Madrid, although the Spanish side may be prioritising a move for Kylian Mbappe this summer and have reportedly been put off by the Monaco man’s price tag.
