Chelsea have joined Manchester United in the race to sign Brentford striker Ivan Toney, reports claim.

According to The Mirror, both Premier League sides are now keen on the Englishman, who has started the season in fine form for The Bees.

Toney, 26, has two goals and two assists in his first three games of the campaign, having scored against both Leicester City and Fulham and set up two goals in Brentford’s 4-0 thrashing of Manchester United last weekend.

The former Peterborough United forward has boasted an impressive scoring record throughout his career and has netted 49 times in 92 appearances for his current club, scoring 14 times in 38 Premier League appearances to date.

According to the report, The Blues’ search for a striker has lead them to Toney, although they still remain interested in former Arsenal man Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Toney scored against Fulham on Saturday

However, having lost both Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner this summer, Tuchel could push to sign both Toney and Aubameyang and new owner Todd Boehly looks to be willing to spend big this summer having already splashed out on Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly and Marc Cucurella.

It is also claimed that Everton are interested in the player, who is a target for new Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag.

The Brentford striker showed how impressive he can be when The Red Devils visited west London last week as he set up two of The Bees’ goals in their 36-minute demolition of their visitors.

Brentford are reportedly prepared for bids for Toney before the window closes, although they are reluctant to sell their first choice striker.
