Chelsea approach ex-Spurs boss to replace struggling Potter

Tottenham Hotspur host rivals Chelsea on Sunday in what promises to be a thrilling encounter. 

The Blues find themselves in the midst of a disastrous run of form, with Graham Potter under increasing pressure to turn things around.

Chelsea have now won just two of their last 14 Premier League matches and sit in tenth place in the table, and will also have to overturn a 1-0 first leg lead if they are to progress past Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League last 16.

Spurs, meanwhile, currently occupy fourth place in the Premier League table and will be looking to move a step closer to securing a Champions League qualification place when they face Chelsea on Sunday.

In the meantime, Chelsea’s owners have reportedly made a shock attempt to replace Potter with a former Spurs boss.

According to 90min, those in charge of the south west London side approached Mauricio Pochettino about the possibility of the Argentinian succeeding under-pressure Potter.

There have been numerous calls for Potter to be sacked following a disastrous run of form, but his employers have so far stuck with the ex-Brighton manager.

Pochettino has reportedly rejected the chance to manage Chelsea

Despite that, they are alleged to have approached Pochettino, who is said to have rejected the proposal.

Pochettino first arrived in England in 2013 when he took charge of Southampton, guiding The Saints to their highest ever Premier League points tally during his first season in charge on the south coast.

He joined Spurs the following season, and spent five years with The Lilywhites, guiding the club to its first ever Champions League final in 2019.

Spurs were beaten by Liverpool in the final and Pochettino departed the club shortly after the start of the 2019/20 campaign.

He has since spent time in France with Paris Saint-Germain, although he failed to win the Ligue 1 title during his first season in charge.

The report also claims that those in charge of Chelsea are not prepared to make a change and dismiss Potter until they have a replacement lined up.
