Chelsea are interested in signing a striker and latest reports suggest that they are closing in on a move for Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema, according to the Mirror.

Blues manager Maurizio Sarri is heavily interested in the Frenchman due to the lack of form of both Olivier Giroud and Alvaro Morata this season.

Despite Morata scoring two goals in the FA Cup victory against Nottingham Forest, the Italian boss wants a new number 9 to help bolster his attack as he eyes a top-four finish.

Sarri does not see Morata as Chelsea’s long-term striking solution.

The West London side have been linked with the 31-year-old, but Ladbrokes has now suspended betting on the striker moving to Stamford Bridge.

Benzema made a big money move from Lyon to Real Madrid in 2009 and has been netted 2014 times in 440 matches for Los Blancos, helping the side win the Champions League four times.

The 31-year-old has scored seven goals in La Liga this season but it’s claimed that his time at the Bernabeu is coming to an end.

A deal for the Frenchman could see Morata’s return to Spain, with the former Real Madrid and Juventus star linked with a loan move to Sevilla.
