Chelsea face another tricky test when they host Newcastle United on Monday evening.

After finishing 12th in the Premier League table last season, the Blues are set for another below par finish this term and currently occupy tenth place.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino has endured a difficult time since taking charge of the West London club, with the Argentine failing to find consistency with his squad of expensive stars.

The former Tottenham Hotspur man was criticised after Chelsea lost to Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final last month, and also after a 2-2 draw against Brentford on Saturday.

Despite this, it appears that Pochettino’s job is safe for now.

According to Football Insider, those in charge of Chelsea are not planning to sack the Argentine mid-season, despite their dismal form.

Pochettino has endured an underwhelming first season at Stamford Bridge

The report claims that the board will discuss Pochettino’s future at the end of the current season, with his long-term future depending on whether or not he can show improvement in the final months of the season.

Chelsea’s BlueCo ownership, fronted by Todd Boehly, dismissed Thomas Tuchel just weeks after takig charge of the club in 2022, and then also sacked his successor Graham Potter after a disappointing run of results.

Pochettino was then appointed to succeed interim boss Frank Lampard, but the ex-Southampton man has struggled ever since arriving in West London.

Despite this, the report claims that the 52-year-old will remain in his position until this summer at least.

Chelsea have won just ten of their 26 Premier League matches so far this season, losing the same amount.

They currently sit below Wolves, Brighton and Hove Albion, and West Ham United in the Premier League table.
