Mauricio Pochettino will take charge of Chelsea in a competitive fixture for the first time on Sunday as the Blues face Liverpool at Stamford Bridge.

The Argentine was appointed as the club’s new boss earlier this summer, and is tasked with restoring normality after the Blues’ 12th-placed league finish last term.

There have been several outgoings at Stamford Bridge this summer, with no fewer than 11 senior first team players departing the club so far.

Nicolas Jackson, Christopher Nkunku and Robert Sanchez have all joined Chelsea, but Pochettino is said to be confident that the club will complete another marquee signing before the transfer window shuts.

As per Football Insider, the former Tottenham Hotspur boss is confident that Brighton and Hove Albion star Moises Caicedo will join Chelsea before the window closes.

The midfielder has been heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge for several weeks now, but the two clubs are yet to reach an agreement.

The London club are expected to submit a new bid for the player in the coming days, likely worth around £90 million.

Caicedo has been a target for Chelsea for some time now

Caicedo, 21, joined the Seagulls from Ecuadorian club Independiente del Valle in 2021 and spent a brief spell on loan in Belgium before returning to the south coast in January last year.

Since then, the midfielder has established himself as one of the best in the division in his position.

He has made 53 appearances for Brighton across all competitions, and was the subject of interest from Arsenal in January.

The Seagulls rejected at least two offers for the player from the Gunners in January, and he then signed a new long-term contract with his current employers shortly after.

More recently Brighton have rejected bids from Chelsea for the player and have stood firm on their £100 million valuation, much to the frustration of Caicedo.

The Ecuador international is said to have refused to train with the club and has made clear his desire to move to Stamford Bridge, the report claims.

Chelsea are in need of midfield reinforcements having allowed N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic, Jorginho, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Mason Mount to leave the club in the past eight months.
