Chelsea host Watford at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon hoping to finish a chaotic season on a high.

Thomas Tuchel’s side have had to deal with the sanctioning of previous owner Roman Abramovich, as well as the backlash from Romelu Lukaku’s controversial interview with Italian media last year.

The Blues have also suffered with numerous injuries to star players, including Ben Chilwell and Reece James, but they did make it to both domestic cup finals and the Champions League quarter finals.

Another issue that has plagued their season, though, is their lack of conviction in front of goal.

Chelsea have scored 22 fewer goals than league leaders Manchester City, and the form of their front line in particular will worry Tuchel.

Midfielder Mason Mount looks likely to finish the season as Chelsea’s joint top scorer in all competitions; he is currently level with Kai Havertz on 13, and also leads the way in terms of assists.

Lukaku’s form has been particularly concerning for Chelsea fans, as the £100 million man has scored just eight league goals all season.

Timo Werner has also failed to impress, scoring just 11 times this campaign, with three of those being in the domestic cups.

It appears now, though, that Tuchel has seen enough and is intent on signing new forwards.

Chelsea were wasteful once again in their 1-1 draw with Leicester City on Thursday

As per The Guardian, the German has run out of patience with his misfiring strikers and is now looking for other options to bolster his frontline ahead of next season.

The report claims that Tuchel is unsure that his current crop of strikers are able to compete with the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City.

“If we stick to the group then we will try to solve it with these players,” Tuchel said.

“Is it necessary to bring more offensive players around the box to create more distractions, to create more space for each other? We will ask that question.

“Can we do better in the structure? Can we push the players more? Did we rotate too much? Let’s see.”

The former Borussia Dortmund coach also criticised the failure of all of his players, with the exception of Mount, in reaching double figures for league goals this season.

“There are a lot of options. The numbers we produce from our offensive players don’t allow us to overperform and we need overperformance if we want to be nearer to the top two teams.

“I am not pointing fingers, I am not blaming anybody, but we need overperformance from everybody. It’s not overperformance if we have only single figures in scoring and assisting.”

Chelsea have been linked with a number of strikers, including Robert Lewandowski, but are currently unable to sign players as a result of the sanctions imposed on the club.
