Chelsea have completed the signings of midfielders Geovany Quenda and Dario Essugo from Portuguese side Sporting CP.

The Lisbon outfit announced late on Wednesday night that a deal had been agreed for the two midfielders to join the Blues over the next 18 months.

Quenda, 17, will cost Chelsea a fee of around £44 million, the announcement said, but the teenage winger won’t move to London until the end of the 2025/26 campaign.

Essugo, meanwhile, is currently on loan at Spanish side Las Palmas but will join up with the Chelsea squad at the end of the current season, with the two clubs having agreed a deal worth around £18.4 million for the 20-year-old.

Bissau-born Quenda – who represents Portugal at youth international level – broke into the senior squad at Sporting towards the end of last season and is enjoying a fine campaign this time around.

In total the winger has now scored two goals and registered eight assists in 44 games for his boyhood club, having progressed through their academy ranks.

Defensive midfielder Essugo, meanwhile, is also a product of Sporting’s academy but has only played 25 times for the first team, having also spent time on loan at Las Palmas and Portuguese second division side Chaves.

The young midfielder has been sent off twice in his last four appearances for Las Palmas, but has otherwise been impressive since making the switch to Spain.

Chelsea have adopted a policy of signing talented young players from across the globe ever since the arrival of their American owners in 2022.

Several young players have been signed by the West London club, however very few have so far had any experience in the first team at Stamford Bridge.

South American duo Kendry Paez and Estevao Willian, both 17, have also both been signed by Chelsea and are set to join up with Enzo Maresca’s squad at the end of the current campaign.
