Chelsea have completed the signing of attacker Joao Felix from Spanish side Atletico Madrid.

The Blues confirmed on Wednesday that the Portuguese star had completed a sensational return to Stamford Bridge, just over a year after his six-month loan spell at the club came to an end.

The attacker has signed a long-term contract until the summer of 2031, becoming the latest Chelsea signing to commit his future to the club beyond the end of the decade.

Felix, 24, cost Atletico a staggering £113 million when he joined the Spanish side from boyhood club Benfica in 2019.

He gradually fell out of favour under Diego Simeone, though, and spent last season on loan at fellow La Liga side Barcelona after his first spell with Chelsea.

During his time with the Blues, the Portugal international scored four goals in 20 games across all competitions, before returning to the Spanish capital last summer.

Felix is starting a second spell with Chelsea after a six-month loan at the club in 2023

Felix has played a total of 131 games for Atletico since his move five years ago, scoring 34 goals and providing 18 assists.

The winger becomes Chelsea’s tenth signing of the summer window so far, following the likes of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Tosin Adarabioyo and Pedro Neto through the door at Stamford Bridge.

The former Benfica man is a versatile attacker capable of playing in a number of positions, including on either flank and as an attacking midfielder or striker.

Felix will be competing with the likes of Neto, Cole Palmer and Christopher Nkunku for a starting spot in Enzo Maresca’s side.

He is set to join up with his new teammates and begin training with Chelsea this week, although he won’t play in the Blues’ UEFA Conference League play-off first leg against Servette at Stamford Bridge on Thursday night.
