Chelsea have announced the signing of Marc Cucurella from Brighton for a fee of around £62 million.

The Blues confirmed the signing on their official website, revealing that the full-back had signed a six-year deal.

The 24-year-old becomes the club’s fifth summer signing after Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly, Carney Chukwuemeka and Gabriel Slonina.

Cucurella only arrived in England last summer, joining Brighton from Spanish side Getafe, but the Spaniard impressed during his first Premier League campaign and was named the Seagulls’ players’ and supporters’ player of the season.

The versatile defender can play at left-back, wing-back or centre-back and will add useful versatility to Thomas Tuchel’s squad.

“I’m really happy. It’s a big opportunity for me to join one of the best clubs in the world and I’m going to work hard to be happy here and help the team,” Cucurella said.

The player had previously been linked with Premier League champions Manchester City.
