Chelsea have completed their third signing of the first summer transfer window with the arrival of Mamadou Sarr.

The Blues confirmed on Monday morning that the French defender had joined from Ligue 1 side Strasbourg, who are under the same ownership group as the Europa Conference League winners.

Sarr, 19 joined Strasbourg from fellow French side Lyon last summer and made 28 appearances during his first season with the club, including 27 in the French top flight.

The centre-back impressed for Liam Rosenior’s side, and Chelsea have pounced to add the central defender to Enzo Maresca’s squad.

Previously, he had emerged from the academy of RC Lens before making three senior appearances with Lyon.

He joined Belgian side RWD Molenbeek on loan in January last year, making ten appearances during his time with the club.

The teenager has signed a long-term contract with the Blues that is set to run until the end of the 2032/33 campaign, continuing Chelsea’s policy of singing promising young players on lengthy deals.

Sarr has been capped by France at several youth levels, including for their Under-20s.

The Frenchman becomes Chelsea’s third summer signing following the arrivals of midfielder Dario Essugo from Portuguese side Sporting, and striker Liam Delap from Ipswich Town.

It remains to be seen whether or not the defender will be involved in Maresca’s squad for the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup, which takes place in the United States later this month.
