Chelsea could miss out on sell-on windfall

Chelsea defeated Championship side Leicester City 4-2 on Sunday to set up an FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City. 

Goals from Marc Cucurella and Cole Palmer put the hosts in a commanding half-time position at Stamford Bridge, but an Axel Disasi own goal gave the visitors hope before Stephy Mavididi drew them level.

Defender Connor Doyle was then sent off for denying a goal scoring opportunity, before Carney Chukwuemeka finished a fine team move to put the Blues back in front.

Noni Madueke then added a fourth for Mauricio Pochettino’s side, setting up a tie against the holders City at Wembley next month.

Pochettino will be desperate to lift his first trophy in English football, having lost the Carabao Cup final against Liverpool in February.

This summer, Chelsea could miss out on a significant payout, according to reports.

Football Insider claim that the London side could miss out on a payout from a sell-on clause in the deal that took Jamal Musiala to Bayern Munich.

Musiala has thrived since moving to Germany

The Germany international departed Chelsea to join the Bundesliga giants in 2019, and the deal included a clause that would see the Blues pocket 20% of any fee that Bayern receive if they sell him.

Musiala has scored 43 goals and provided 30 assists in 156 games for the German side across all competitions, and his impressive performances had sparked rumours that he could leave Bavaria.

Despite this, the report claims that Bayern are hoping to accelerate talks with the player over a new contract, which could see Chelsea miss out on a sell-on fee.

It is also claimed that the Bundesliga champions have put a price tag of £100 million on the attacking midfielder, who previously represented England at youth level before switching his international allegiance to Germany.

Both Manchester City and Liverpool have been linked with a move for Musiala, 21, who has scored 12 goals in 31 games this season.

A payout this summer could help Chelsea to avoid breaching Premier League profit and sustainability rules.
