Chelsea will be hoping to put their 4-1 defeat against Liverpool behind them when they face Wolves at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

The Blues were outclassed at Anfield on Wednesday evening, with Jurgen Klopp’s side cruising to victory to move five points clear at the top of the Premier League table.

The visit of Wolves will provide another tough test for Mauricio Pochettino’s side, who now look extremely unlikely to finish in the top four this term.

Ahead of the game, it has been revealed that one of Chelsea’s defenders came close to departing the club on deadline day.

According to FootMercato via The Express, defender Malang Sarr was the subject of interest from French side Le Havre late in the window.

The 25-year-old joined the Blues from Ligue 1 side Nice back in 2020, but has never established himself as a regular in the Chelsea squad.

Sarr hasn’t featured for Chelsea so far this season

In total the centre-back has made just 21 appearances for the London side across all competitions, and has spent time on loan at both Porto and Monaco over the past few seasons.

The report claims that Le Havre were keen to sign Sarr on loan on Wednesday, but couldn’t agree a deal with their Premier League counterparts in time to complete the move.

Sarr has fallen completely out of favour under Pochettino, failing to be included in a single match day squad so far this term.

The Frenchman’s current contract with the Blues is set to run until 2025, but he may leave Stamford Bridge during the upcoming summer transfer window.

The former Nice man is behind the likes of Thiago Silva, Axel Disasi, and Benoit Badiashile in the pecking order of central defenders in SW6 at present.
