Thomas Tuchel’s tenure at Chelsea has got off to a promising start as the Blues have picked up four points from their two games so far, and are still yet to concede under the German.

With the deadline for the January transfer window closing at 11pm on Monday, it seems highly unlikely that Tuchel will move for any signings at such short notice.

Equally, it has been widely reported that several Chelsea players who seemed destined for the exit door, notably Marcos Alonso, Emerson Palmeiri and Billy Gilmour, will now be staying put.

One potential departure from Stamford Bridge, however, could be young defender Jack Wakely, who is rumoured to be on his way to Sussex to join Brighton.

The 20-year-old, who has spent more than a decade on the Blues’ books, could follow in the footsteps of former youth teammate Tariq Lamptey, who has taken the Premier league by storm since joining the Seagulls from Chelsea last summer.

Lamptey has been a star for Brighton.

Graham Potter’s side have enquired about the availability of Wakely and wish to take him on loan for the remainder of the season, according to Sky Sports.

It’s also claimed that another Chelsea youngster, wing-back Dujon Sterling, could also be on his way out with a host of Championship clubs rumoured to be interested in a loan deal for the player.
