Chelsea have ten days to prepare for their crucial Carabao Cup semi final second leg against Middlesbrough next Tuesday.

The Blues were beaten 1-0 by their Championship opponents in the first leg at the Riverside last week, and manager Mauricio Pochettino will be desperate to see his side improve next time out.

Since the defeat to Boro, Chelsea battled to a narrow 1-0 win over West London rivals Fulham at Stamford Bridge, with Cole Palmer’s penalty the only goal of the game.

With the transfer window now in full swing, the Argentine will likely be keen to bolster his squad ahead of a crucial second half of the season.

It appears, though, that the Blues will also allow one of their current defenders to depart.

As per Football Insider, centre-back Trevoh Chalobah doesn’t feature in Pochettino’s plans and has therefore been told that he is free to leave the club this month.

Chalobah hasn’t featured for Chelsea this season

Chalobah, 24, is a product of Chelsea’s youth academy and has made a total of 63 appearances across all competitions.

The report claims that the Blues perceive Chalobah as a saleable asset that could help to improve their Financial Fair Play standing.

Owner Todd Boehly has spent huge sums of money on new signings since taking charge of the club in 2022, but Chelsea have also sold a number of academy products including Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Mason Mount, and Lewis Hall.

Chalobah hasn’t featured for Chelsea so far this season due to a hamstring injury, but he has recently hinted that he is close to a return to action.

Italian side Napoli have been linked with a move for the Englishman, who previously spent time on loan at both Ipswich Town and French outfit Lorient.

Rivals Tottenham Hotspur were reported to have shown an interest in Chalobah, but they have since signed Radu Dragusin from Genoa.
