Chelsea return to Premier League action on Monday evening when they host London rivals West Ham United.

Enzo Maresca’s side have struggled of late, winning just one of their past seven league games, and have fallen from second place to sixth since Christmas.

Despite their woes, the Blues are yet to make a senior signing so far this month and it appears increasingly unlikely that will change as we approach Monday’s 11pm transfer deadline.

Now, though, it appears that the West London side have enquired about the availability of a youngster from one of their rivals.

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea have enquired about Manchester City youngster Nico O’Reilly as they hunt for new midfielders.

He claims that the Blues are on the hunt for young new midfielders and their search has lead them to City’s O’Reilly.

O’Reilly (centre) has been the subject of a surprise approach from rivals Chelsea

The 19-year-old is one of a number of recent graduates from Manchester City’s youth academy and has now played six times for the Citizens at senior level, having made his debut earlier this season.

The teenager netted his first goal for City during their 8-0 win over Salford City in the FA Cup last month, and his impressive displays when handed opportunities this term appear to have attracted the interest of Chelsea.

O’Reilly’s versatility could appeal to the Blues, who have signed several young players over the past couple of years, as he is able to play as a central midfielder, attacking midfielder, or even as a centre-back.

Despite the interest from Chelsea, Romano claims that City are reluctant to let O’Reilly leave and a deal for the player will therefore prove tricky to agree.
