Chelsea are interested in singing Lens wing-back Jonathan Clauss after the defender’s outstanding season in Ligue 1.

As per Goal, the Blues are considering making a move for the 29-year-old, who finished last season with the joint-most combined league goals and assists of any full-back in Europe’s top five leagues.

Clauss’ superb form also earned him his senior international debut, and he has now made four appearances for Les Bleus.

Thomas Tuchel is believed to be keen on adding to his options at full-back, with injuries to both Ben Chilwell and Reece James derailing his side’s campaign midway through last season.

As a natural right wing-back, Clauss would most likely act as cover for James, who himself registered six goals and ten assists last term.

Clauss could be on his ay to Stamford Bridge

The Ligue 1 side are only demanding around £10 million for the player despite his improved form, largely as a result of his contract entering into the final 12 months and the fact that he is unwilling to extend his deal.

It is claimed, though, that Chelsea face competition for Clauss from Spanish side Atletico Madrid, who have identified the player as a potential replacement for Sime Vrsaljko, who is set for Olympiakos.

The report claims that Clauss would be viewed as a replacement for club captain Cesar Azpilicueta if he were to depart; the Spaniard has been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona.
