Chelsea travel to the North East to face Newcastle United at St James’ Park on Saturday afternoon.

The Blues looked to have improved prior to the international break, following up a win over Tottenham Hotspur with an impressive draw against Premier League leaders Manchester City.

Despite the two positive results, Mauricio Pochettino’s side still sit tenth in the Premier League table, and the Argentine will therefore be keen to get a result against the Magpies.

In the meantime, though, it appears that Chelsea could be looking to re-sign one of their former defenders.

According to Simon Phillips via The Chelsea Chronicle, the idea of making a move for AC Milan centre-back Fikayo Tomori has been discussed internally by those in charge of the club.

Tomori has been in fine form since joining AC Milan

Tomori 25, graduated from Chelsea’s youth academy and made 27 appearances for the club across all competitions, before being sold to the Serie A side for £30 million in 2021.

Since moving to Italy, the central defender has made more than 120 appearances for Milan.

During his first season at the San Siro, he played a key role as Milan won the Serie A title.

Chelsea have signed a number of centre-backs in recent transfer windows, including both Benoit Badiashile and Axel Disasi from French side Monaco this year.

Despite that, veteran defender Thiago Silva is likely to leave the club at the end of the current season, and it appears that those in charge are planning for his likely departure.

Tomori has now established himself as a regular in Gareth Southgate’s England squads, and has been capped five times for his country at senior level.

He is also now regarded by many as one of the standout central defenders in the Italian top flight, having made a total of 92 appearances in the competition since his move.
