Frank Lampard made a sensational return to Chelsea on Thursday, taking charge of the club as interim manager until the end of the season.

The former England captain takes over from Bruno Saltor, who had been in charge for The Blues’ 0-0 draw with Liverpool on Tuesday evening following Graham Potter’s sacking last weekend.

Lampard, who made more than 640 appearances for Chelsea as a player and managed the club for 18 months a couple of years ago, will be in the dugout as The Blues face Wolves at Molineux on Saturday.

The likes of Luis Enrique and Julian Nagelsmann have been touted as possible permanent appointments at the end of the season, but for now Lampard is the man in charge at Stamford Bridge.

Owner Todd Boehly has spent more than £500 million since taking charge of Chelsea last summer, but the American’s spending looks likely to continue this summer.

Now, it appears that the club are eyeing a move for one of the stars of the World Cup last year.

According to Football Insider, the west London outfit are considering a move for Benfica forward Goncalo Ramos.

Ramos is said to be a target for Chelsea this summer

The striker has been in sensational form for the Portuguese side this term, scoring 25 goals and registering ten assists across all competitions.

Ramos’ 17 league goals have helped propel Benfica to the summit of the Portuguese top flight, but his performances haven’t gone unnoticed.

It is claimed that Chelsea are looking to land Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, but they feel that Ramos could represent a useful alternative to the Nigeria international, who could cost more than £105 million.

At the World Cup in Qatar last year, Ramos netted a remarkable hat-trick to ensure Portugal progressed past Switzerland and into the quarter-finals.

The 21-year-old also provided an assist during that 6-1 victory, but was unable to prevent his side from exiting the competition at the hands of Morocco in the next round.

Ramos’ current contract with Benfica is set to run until 2026, which puts the Lisbon side in a commanding position during any potential negotiations.

It is claimed that Benfica would accept an offer of around £70 million for Ramos, who is also believed to be a target for Manchester United if they miss out on prime target Harry Kane this summer.
