Chelsea have sacked Jose Mourinho after a disastrous start to their Premier League title defence.

The Blues have lost nine of their first 16 matches, meaning they are just a point above the bottom-three and 14 behind fourth-placed Manchester United.

So what next for owner Roman Abramovich, who will now be making his 10th managerial change since buying the Blues in 2003.

Here’s the early front-runners to take the Stamford Bridge post……

5. Brendan Rodgers

Despite failing to win a trophy in his three-year spell with Liverpool, many at Chelsea still hold Brendan Rodgers in high regard due to his time there as youth and reserve team coach.

Without a job at the minute, the Northern Irishman would jump at the chance to manage the champions.

Rodgers is highly-rated at Chelsea

We don’t see him being a popular candidate, but neither was the appointment of Rafa Benitez when Abramovich put him in charge in 2012.

The Spaniard took the post on an interim basis and a similar deal could be struck here with Rodgers.
