Chelsea will hope to return to winning ways when they travel to face Aston Villa on Saturday.

The Blues had been enjoying a superb season until Christmas, when their form dipped dramatically.

Enzo Maresca’s side have won just two of their last nine Premier League matches and have slipped from second place to sixth spot during that period, as well as being knocked out of the FA Cup by Brighton and Hove Albion last week.

Despite at one point looking like genuine title contenders, the Blues now face a battle to qualify for Champions League football next term and their only realistic chance of winning a trophy this term would be to lift the Europa Conference League.

While Maresca prepares his side to face the Villans at Villa Park on Saturday, one fringe player in his squad is closing in on a move away from Stamford Bridge.

As per Fabrizio Romano, forward Deivid Washington is set to undergo a medical ahead of a proposed loan move to Brazilian side Santos.

Romano claims that Chelsea had decided to allow the 19-year-old to depart in January, with the move regarded as being a key part of his development.

The documents for the proposed deal are said to be in place, with Chelsea having set aside one of their outgoing loan spots to allow Washington to depart with the striker having recently been on international duty with Brazil Under-20s.

Washington joined the Blues from Santos in 2023 but has since played just three times for the West London side at senior level, failing to score in any of his appearances.

The teenager has, however, netted ten times in 18 matches for Chelsea Under-21s, and he will now have the opportunity to further his development during a loan spell at his boyhood club.

Washington will also link up with fellow forward Neymar, who recently made a high profile return to the Brazilian club 12 years after departing to join Barcelona.
