Chelsea have reportedly been given a boost in their pursuit of re-signing Belgium international forward Romelu Lukaku this summer, according to the London Evening Standard.
The Premier League side, who have established a nine-point lead at the top of the English top-flight standings after defeating title rivals Arsenal 3-1 on Saturday, have been linked with luring Everton’s star striker back to Stamford Bridge.
The 23-year-old, who has 54 international caps for his country and featured for Belgium at UEFA Euro 2016 last summer, has impressively scored 17 goals and provided five assists in 25 appearances in all competitions for The Toffees so far this season.
Lukaku, who sealed a permanent move from Chelsea to Everton worth a reported £28m back in July 2014, is wanted back at the London outfit by Blues boss Antonio Conte ahead of the 2017-18 campaign.
The Belgian first arrived in English football at Stamford Bridge after sealing a £10m switch from Anderlecht in August 2011.
The report suggests that Lukaku’s agent, Mino Raiola, has hinted that the forward could leave Merseyside at the end of this season, despite a new contract being drawn up for the prolific goalscorer.
