Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca will have plenty of big decisions to make this summer before he takes charge of the club for the first time in August.

The Italian will face former colleague Pep Guardiola in his first match in charge, with reigning Premier League champions Manchester City travelling to Stamford Bridge as hey start the defence of their title.

Maresca’s first starting line-up could be quite different to the one that Mauricio Pochettino named on the final day of last season, with several comings and goings expected over the next few weeks.

Now, it appears that the Blues are working on a deal for one of the most prolific forwards in Ligue 1.

David has emerged as a target for Chelsea

According to The Athletic, Chelsea are in talks over a potential move for Lille striker Jonathan David.

The report claims that the London side have held talks with the representatives of the Canada international, with a view to potentially signing him this summer.

David, 24, joined Lille from Belgian side Gent in 2020 and has since played 183 times for the French side across all competitions, scoring 84 goals and providing 18 assists.

Last term, the Canadian forward scored 26 goals in 47 games.

Chelsea are looking to strengthen Maresca’s attacking options this summer, and David has emerged as a viable option due to his current contract situation.

The forward is set to enter the final 12 months of his current deal in the coming weeks, and the French club’s president, Olivier Letang, recently admitted that the striker could therefore be sold during the current window.

That appears to suggest that he could be available at a reasonable price, and Chelsea are therefore considering a move for the player this summer.
